Order Info
Dear Advertisers:
First of all, congratulations on planning for web-based advertising.
Next, in preparing for a web presence that will provide
your potential clients with business information, some suggestions.
This section specifically addresses the needs of an attorney.
It is our hope that others wishing to advertise online would also benefit
from reading this section.
Getting started .. .. with a Storyboard
Plan a storyboard based upon your proposed publishing data.
Unlike any other advertising media, the Internet provides (a) the logistics
for widespread distribution (24/7) and (b) space without significant limitations.
The chart to the right is an illustration of a website where the top page is
referred to as a "homepage." Those that want to be hosted as part
of Shop Las Vegas, Phoenix Shopper or Shop OC will have a similar infrastructure
except the homepage will be referred to as an "anchor page."
This is a traditional hierarchy, eg, company organization chart.
Check List
You want to arrange your data logically and make the site navigation clear and clean.
Notice the second layer of webpages are referred to as "Major Submenus."
That is because on your homepage (or anchor page in our webportals) you would have links
to the various subsections of your site.
Content of an Attorney Site
(a) Bio or Profile Information
(b) Practice Areas of Specialization
(c) Scenerios of Successful Cases
(d) Newsletter-type Presentation, Tips,
Terminology/Vocabulary, and/or Favorite Links

Check List for our Anchor Plus Package
Anchor Page - Intro (Screen) Section plus Contact Section
Bio Page - Your Profile, Background, Credentials (and Photo)
2nd Page - Practice Areas plus Optional Sections: Cases, Terms, Testimonial
The exercise for you is to "think resume." Your webpages should reflect
a succinct organization of your background, logically arranged for navigation purposes,
departmentalized. Frank's job is to publish it for you in such a manner
that your potential clients will see the "total package."
We are here to assist you in your (a) storyboard plan, (b) gather information for your site,
and (c) take care of the technical issues for you from publishing, performance, and web-hosting.
Your Consultant with the Right Skill Sets
Frank has the optimum skill sets for publishing your business communication.
26 years of operating his own consulting business with clients ranging from
small (like the focus of these advertising webportals today) to corporate america
and aerospace multi-million dollar projects.
See DPRB Resume.
Anchor Plus
How does our $250 Package fit my needs? This is a very simple proposition and
one with the capability of hyper-link publishing is easy to resolve with only three (3) pages:
anchor, and two additional (long) pages.
And, we are flexible. This is perfect for the attorney just starting his business.
Attorneys, or those with Associates that may need more space, we can provide it in the
form of more webpages linked together, easy.
Getting you started with a little known technical capability, the internal (web) page hyper-link,
allows you to set up menu links that direct people to (a) other webpages as well as (b) "jumpers"
to another section of an existing page.
This method is perfect for new businesses that have many things they want to say, but not in volumes.
The thing that has always bothered me about beginners or amateurs that have little to
say and spread it across a half dozen pages is content. Nothing, in my professional opinion,
looks worse for image than a blank page or one that says hardly anything.
Being a master resume designer, this skill is perfect for advertising message as well as business
communications where the concept is to present information, but not necessarily in a textbook format.
Hey! Not so fast!
In your illustration/talk, you speak of more
than three (3) sections ..
- Law Huang International, Ltd.
There are eight (8) sections
-- besides the homepage!
Simple ..
See Check List
There is absolutely no reason the (1) Practice Areas, (2) Successful Cases,
(3) My Book, (4) What's New, (5) Favorite Links and (6) Clients' Comments (Testimonials)
can not be arranged on one (1) page, with internal hyper-links ...
(Attorney Profile/photos) should always be on a separate page.)
Actually, Frank is a magician .. gets the same results of those so-called pros publishing six (6) pages in one!!!!
Remember -- Contact Information should be prominent and visible on your anchor page!
Protecting Your Interest
This being the Internet, and being a professional consultant with some 26 years of operating
my own business, I am always aware of the piracy issue.
I would be (literally) dropping the ball, if I wasn't aware of those so-called "professionals"
out there willing to pirate solutions published as their own, but without the ability to deliver
for you.
That is why this presentation (and others) may seem skimmy at times.
But, there are some "pictures" that I want you to be able to see so that you can judge for yourself
that it is all very possible. And, one is the concept of a three-page layout, or storyboard.
As an Attorney, you want all these components ..
(a) Your Bio or Profile, (b) Your Areas of Practice, (c) Contact Info and from there, you would expand out
to things like successful case history, client suggestions (tips) and even introduce some newsletter type format
information such as legal terminology that is prevalent in your area(s) of practice.
Now, in comes the capabilities of the Internet with hyper-links and professional publishing skills.
That anchor page should contain all the contact information a potential client will ever need.
Today, you don't need to cut'n paste a map onto that page because you can provide a more powerful dynamic
link to the map leader, Google. That's right. In my 15 years of publishing on
the Internet (alone,) I have used the three major leaders, MapQuest - Yahoo - Google. And,
today, with the introduction of an "active" map surface where it is no longer necessary to "click"
navigation icons to move the map around, Google has out done themselves, in my opinion.
The satellite imagery option doesn't hurt, either.
Your Bio or Profile should always be on a separate page. So, that leaves one page for
everything else and that should be your Area(s) of Practice, minimum. Depending on your
practice and level of experience, you may want to include a section of "Successful Cases."
You may even want to have a few important legal terms defined and/or some suggestive tips or background
on your approach to things like being a trial lawyer or preparation of a case.
Whether you think of yourself as superman, or a knight in shining armor, or a heavy-weight defender
of your client's rights, or just a human being, we have got you covered.
Frank, in another life, has many years of legal business exposure. First, in his army days
at a Replacement Depot as an AWOL Legal Clerk working with army lawyers.
Then years later, in his own legal disputes with a "money hungry" second spouse in California, a community property
state, exposed to issues where a spouse was caught off guard without proper nuptual agreements.
Family Court and Federal District Court lead to pro bono paralegal work for both male and female spouses
that needed assistance.
This background makes it easy for practicing attorneys to discuse their publishing needs.
What you can expect ..
For the one-time fee of $250, you can expect a thorough job in publishing your material.
And, again, if you desire more, Frank will provide you with a fixed-price quote
before any work or agreement is consumated.
Proofing your pages is always an option. Based upon the initial review of the material
you provide for the project, we can come to terms that such proofing is anticipated as something at
no extra charge, or should provide an allowance, eg, $100 for proof changes.
We are not attempting to be in a position to take advantage of our clients because they can not envision
the final results, but on the other hand, we do not plan to "eat" our profits because a client wants
all types of frivolous changes based upon poor planning up front. A good example of this
is a recent client that submitted updates to pages that I already finished late, after the work was done.
Some clients become defensive and there isn't really a good excuse for such conduct because the client
is dealing in a different world and we did not make any demands of a "camera ready" version of their
advertisement.
We are looking to make good business relations and want to impress upon our clients that their work
should always be thought of as a "first cut" (versus first draft.) That the client should
never fear making changes to something as important as their business message to the general public.
We like to place ourselves in our clients' position where they lack technical skills and many times
business communication skills and need both in support. Penalizing a client only insures
that you lose that client (and potential referrals.)
We want you to know ..
Here are a few comments from a recent project client in the type of support we provide, 24/7.
That's right. I have been known to work on a client's project on Friday night, all day Saturday,
and even Sunday. As a small business operation, I know my weekday time can be of significant
value wearing "other hats" in my business than the labor intensive requirements of the publishing.
Hi Franco,
You are magic! I admire you are a genius! Thank you for your help. It
looks better and better now.
- Law Huang International, Ltd.
Reading my Clients' minds ..
Unfortunately, I can not read the minds of my clients.
Therefore, I have to depend a lot on my 26 years of operating a consultant business,
and another decade of working with people in the army in many administrative positions
and learning in my graduate studies at U.S.C. more about the human factor.
So, when a client emails me a week after the project is done, with a "request,"
I either get on the phone to clarify what it is they want, or do it asap.
Here is an example of the type of communication that I can get and how I handle it.
Hi Franco,
Jeff told me that we still have not transfered my website from his server
to godaddy yet. Is this true?
Please let me know if you have time.
Regards,
Mike
(1) This whole (transfer) issue was never discussed.
(2) The third party (Jeff) referenced was only referred to as the technical support (publisher)
of the client.
Of course, the only way to address such matters, especially when I was "blind-sided," is a phone call.
The client has an annual maintenance agreement in affect, so discussion of cost was not an issue.
Because this particular client has little or no technical knowledge, I took care of the
transfer to GoDaddy dot-com for him, taking about a half day to get the appropriate technical data
and 15 minutes to back up and do the physical transfer.

Here is where there is a ton of exclusive and trade secrets that we are not about to share or publish herein.
After all, what makes one website stand out more than another is the selection of colors, fonts and graphic imagery
to augment the business message.
Common Mistakes
Most amateurs and some professionals integrate a menu-bar system that requires unnecessary bandwidth
overhead as well as placement on the page so that every website page truncates the business message. See before & after and template.
Graphic Images - too dark and sizing issues plus poorly selected items.
Foreign Font introduction, ie, Chinese is managed by capturing the various passages, croppin, and de-emphasizing.

About Proof Shakedown
|
Frank Picchione Your Website Designer
(702) 363-3290
Why Law Huang? Simple. Mr. Huang both appreciates the power of having
an Internet presence and something a little more than a small website.
Therefore, providing a good illustration of something more than our normal offering of Anchor Plus
which is a 3-page package. And, all at a fixed price quote, up front.
We know our (publishing) business and aren't afraid to provide a client with a "no suprise" price quote
that they can depend on now and tommorrow! Interested in some form of Proof Shakedown post publishing?
Ask us about it, and depending on how extensive or complex the revisions may be, we will be happy to
add a small fee for such additional services beyond the initial design work.
That translates into the Client receiving a 7-page package deal facelift for the price of our Anchor Plus
$250 plus a $100 charge for Proof Shakedown and a $100 annual maintenance fee for up to the equivalent of two
hours professional services.* * The Proof Shakedown exceeded any two hour service substantially.

Hi, Franco,
How are you? Many thanks for your offer. I hope you enjoy your weekend.
Here is my initial suggestion to modify the website:
1. Please make all letters in a smaller size. Now it's nice to have all
pages printed in the paper, but I feel the lettersize of English is too
big.
This size is standard. I will use small then.
All Headings and Bullet-type listings left "as is," eg, Successful Cases.
2. Please move down the top the text of each pay. We should have a "sky"
on the top.
10 pixel added.
3. Also minimize the picture on the first page little bit.
375 x 260 reduced to 300 x 224.
4. Please erase on the home page the address, phone and fax number on the
right. Just have the address, phone and fax number on the bottom. Can you
make the copyright dated in 2004?
Homepage Only: remove right margin address, phone nos.
Note: you did not say to remove email icon in margin.
Copyright 2004-2007
5. On the Attorney Profiles page: Pls erase the "Superman"logo. on my
name, please erase "Michael", just use Xiaosheng Huang, Esq.. The Chinese
text about me is messy, so please use the attached text. On the bottom,
pls erase the photo of my building.
Superman Logo removed.
"Michael" removed.
Chinese graphic text beside your photo removed.
No attachment for replacement Chinese, space hold open
pending attachment receipt.
Office building photo removed from Mission Statement Section.
6. On the "Practice Area", pls erase the "level" with "companies and
investor". I'd like to add Chinese flag if you can find one. In the column
of "International Trade and Investment" ,please add "Assist American
companies to invest and do business in China" in the very beginning.
Scales of Justice (animated) removed below US Flag.
Add "Assist American companies to invest and do business in China"
in the text for International Trade and Investment Section.
Chinese Flag .. I'll let you know.
7. On the homepage, erase the "My books". This page does not work.
Sorry, as I stated in my proposal, I do NOT support forms, php, etc.
Guest_book.php is on your server. Do you want it removed?
"My Books" is on all your pages. Remove completely?
8. On the contact information page, pls erase the HOng Kong Asia Office
info. Just have the Ameircan address, phone and fax, but remember put on
:Email: xhuang@lawhuang.com.
Hong Kong Address taken out.
Email icon replaced with spelled out email address.
Suggestion: Las Vegas Map could be cropped to fit to the right
of the contact info. Assume: leave alone.
PENDING: ATTORNEY PROFILE (CHINESE ATTACHMENT)
BESIDE YOUR PHOTO, MIKE.
DONE.
Thank you! take it easy.

Dear Franco,
In the "What's New", about the book, the English text is messed up by
showing some bad codes. Also I would like to use a new English Text and
Chinese Text. Also I want to put a photo of the Taiwan version. I attach
the two files for your use.
Please try to minimize the size of the photos of the two books.
Also in the Home page, pls make more space between the English text and
Chinese text.
Many thanks for your help!

Some Final Thoughts ..
Let's face it, we are still in the days of pioneer publishing.
As a senior developer and project leader, I have seen the evolution of all forms
of electronic publishing from the early pioneer days of DOS fonts to Windows.
With the publishing media of the Internet today, I think many business owners are being overwhelmed
with technical options and making bad decisions.
A strong believer in the K.I.S.S. Method, or simplicity, and focus on the business message, I try
to draw an analogy of "business stationary, only online. Explain that your objective
is to take advantage of the amount of space you have for introducing your business and the unlimited
distribution channel versus "Hollyweird Pizzaz."
Since 1993 and the commercialization of the Internet with the Web (server,) technical components
for fancy menus have dominated the landscape. And, with the expected results -- a
goal of showmanship versus content. Content alluding to the fact that people get
all entangled with technology and forget their business objectives.
I sometimes like to draw upon my "basketball coach" analogy where I lecture on "basics" or
fundamentals of business communication and simply publishing same in HTML.
A good coach would demand that his players practice and become efficient in the basic drills
versus try to be fancy. The same concepts apply to publishing online.
This attorney did just that, integrated a "mouse/over" or "graphic/over" menu system, and probably
feeling as if he achieved a lot. The underlying code that drives all this, in our opinion,
is a bandwidth nightmare, first of all, and most importantly, deprives the business message of precious
vertical space along the left margin.
Introducing sound business practices that integrates the power of hyper-links online with a storyboard
and traditional text menu links, we have designed for the website a consistent look'n feel with a model
Template which will serve
every page in the site as well as the
Homepage.
Compare Real Estate:

After (Optimized)
Above, truncated print vers.
|
| Common Publishing Mistake ..
Placement of the Menu Bar along the left margin is a common publishing mistake.
Other common publishing mistakes involve choice of publishing tools.
When I check out a website, I check the various page links for (a) content and (b) how quickly they appear.
Some of these illustrations that follow are gems. Gems with both poor layout of
their content and bandwidth issues for snappy appearance.
A Developer's Tool -- the Browser "Print Preview"
Using the browser "Print Preview" Option on the File pull-down menu bar not only saves paper,
but let's you see what your webpage will look like when you print it .. everything from margins
to page breaks. This exercise does you little good unless you go to the actual
website and select the "Print Preview" Option (as well as click on the various pages of the
website to see how quick the next webpage appears and evaluate the content.
Disclaimer: Shop Las Vegas is not affiliated with or publisher of any of the
illustrations that follow.
Thomas A. Larmore, Chartered
Mr. Larmore seems to be impressed with his homepage image of a open book and
the corresponding dark color scheme that image depends on. Key pages are either poorly
laid out, or lack content, and the page "wait" is extraordinary. He has some good "newsletter"
pages with "more.." links, but note how the link is jammed up against the sentence.
Julia L. Osborne Law Offices
Now, I am beginning to see (part of) the problem.
LexisNexis approach to website support services is to provide some options in template
and basically the same message (content.)
Lin & Associates
This website, it is not so much the content" as the publishing technique that
I refer to as the "stretch." The "Attorney Profile" Section chose to split the
pages per attorney where a cursory review indicated that they could have been consolidated on one
page with internal internal links.
Law Offices of Reza Athari
Note the layout (or template) is similar to Mr. Larmore's above. I like to
think of a lot of "bullet" pages, ie, outline content as a resume. Mr. Athari has good content,
but poor layout (again.)   Yes, page links are extraordinary slow.

"Splash Screen" Approach ..
Pereira & Velasquez, LLP
Real estate management, again, left margin loss.
Well-meaning Template Approach ..
Gazda & Tadyon
This law firm chose a template that provided the primary links at the bottom of the page,
a submit form for inquiries in the right margin and a decent content body that prints fine. Only
problem is many of the navigation and online form (that truncates) prints too. Color scheme and
"frame" theme, evidently, is something the company management approves of. Personally, the "frame"
heading (theme) takes up too much precious screen real estate -- great for pictures on the wall, but not for
business communication.
Newsletter Approach ..
Attorney Robert West, Ltd.
Again, all the navigation links are in a vertical column along the left margin,
prime print area. The good news is that the published results restrict their
overall width to "printable" area and therefore everything is printed properly.
My point is "Why not place the navigation (out of sight) on the far right, out of the
"printable" area and give the main content, here an article on immigration, more space
horizontally?
Critique: This site is very thorough with informative data on every
aspect of his specialty area plus links for all the major government forms their clients
will need.
